The Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC) formerly known as the Bikeways and Trails Advisory Committee (BTAC) was established by City Council in October 2004.

The Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC) formerly known as the Bikeways and Trails Advisory Committee (BTAC) was established by City Council in October 2004.
In lieu of the regular meeting, the ATAC will complete a site tour on Monday, May 11, 2026, starting at 3 p.m. at Thalia Creek Greenway Phase 3, parking at 119 S. Independence Blvd, Virginia Beach, 23462.
Following the initial location (Thalia Creek Greenway), those in attendance will drive themselves to the next two sites, Violet Bank Trail (park near 1201 Kittery Drive) and Historic Kempsville Kayak Launch (park at 5251 Princess Anne Road).
Three or more members of the ATAC and OSAC may be in attendance at the Transition Area/Interfacility Traffic Area (TA/ITA) Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting on May 7, 5:30 p.m., at the Municipal Center, 2416 Courthouse Drive, Bldg. 19, Room A, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
TA/ITA Citizens Advisory Committee MeetingThe Bikeways and Trails Advisory Committee (BTAC) was established by City Council in October 2004. It was renamed the Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC) in June 2022.
"Active Transportation" includes walking, biking, using small-wheeled transport such as skates or scooters, wheelchair travel, and human-powered watercraft transportation such as canoeing and kayaking.
The mission of this committee is to:
Serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council with respect to the implementation of the Active Transportation Plan.
Coordinate the timely construction of active transportation facilities and traits in accordance with the plan’s priorities.
Promote a balanced approach between and among various users' interests.
Provide a forum for continued resident input in the planning and programming of future active transportation facilities.
