Each year, on the first Saturday of June, Virginia Beach residents simultaneously descend on the rivers, streams, beaches as well as land-based properties of the Chesapeake Bay watershed to remove harmful litter and debris.
Since the origination of the event in 1989, approximately 153,000 Virginia volunteers have donated their time and energy towards the Clean the Bay Day event which has resulted in having removed more than 6.5 million pounds of debris from more than 7,425 miles of shoreline.
Established 34 years ago, Clean the Bay Day is a true Virginia Beach tradition and an annual opportunity for families, military installations, businesses, clubs, and civic or church groups to give back to our environment.
